Description
Placemat Top:Trim seven panels of fabric – each measuring 8 x 35 cm. Pin one side of each panel right side together and machine stitch, leaving approx a 1 cm of excess on each seam, remove pins. Trim 50 x 35 cm section of batting, and two 50 x 35 cm pieces of muslin fabric.
Quilting and Assembling:Pin batting to backside of stitched-together fabric panels, and one piece of muslin to backside of batting, right sides each facing away from batting. Machine stitch (with visible stitch) each section (tan thread used in example) to produce desired quilted look. *Example stitches along each side of seam(s) in fabric panels.
Using second piece of muslin fabric, pin to quilted front panel, right sides facing each other. Machine stitch around edges, leaving approx 2,5 cm excess and stopping with approx 6 cm left open (to turn placemat right side out). Trim excess fabric close to seam, and then flip right side out. Hand stitch small portion left open, shut. Machine stitch (top stitch) border around entire placemat – approx 1 cm from the edge of mat. *Finished mat should measure approx 45 x 30 cm.
